The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), CHRIST (Deemed to be University) Faculty of Engineering (CUFE) invited Mr. Sreenivasa Ramanujan, Academic Relationship Manager, Tata Consultancy Services, Bengaluru for an interaction session. It was coordinated by Mr. Vinay Kumar Benedict (Project manager, TCS) and placement cell of CUFE. He came over to the campus on 17th January 2017 and held discussions with Curriculum Development Council (CDC), Board of Studies (BoS) and students of the department.
A campus tour was organized for the guest. Prof. Glady Jacob accompanied the guest during campus tour. The guest visited academic blocks, laboratories, Centre for Digital Innovation (CDI), guest house and library in the campus from 10:00 am to 10:45 am. Separate interactions with Dr Balachandran K HOD, CSE and other CDC, BOS team members from 10:45am to 11:45 am were arranged at Panel Room in the 1st block. Following points were discussed during these meetings:
1. Industry orientation of curriculum and practice of teaching learning methodology to bridge the gap between industry and academia.
2. To bridge the gap between NBA (National Board of Accreditation) specific model and existing model.
3. ‘Industry based training the trainer’ model implementation to increase the productivity of institute.
4. Introduction of specialized M.Tech Programme catering to the customized needs of the industry
5. Gap analysis and formulate strategies to stabilize the M.Tech intake irrespective of market condition.
6. Opportunities available through Research Scholar Programme and to plan for the same through TRDC (Tata Research Development and Design Center), Pune.
7. Importance of industry based project and internship.
8. To create avenues for giving industry projects / part of industry projects to students for solving within the campus.
9. To create avenues to train few faculty members on the cutting edge technology and they in turn train the students.
10. Training students on the European languages and creating new opportunities for them.
11. Importance of joint teaching in the areas like software engineering, design patterns, cryptography and network security with industry experts.
12. Problem based learning to motivate students to learn the concepts.
13. Experts from industry may come to campus to conduct few classes of some specific courses.
14. Dual degree programme following the guidelines of UGC may be considered for further discussions.
There was a student interaction session from 11:45 am to 1:30 pm. Audience were from 2nd, 6th semester B Tech CSE , 2nd semester M Tech students and faculty Members of CSE department. Mr. Sreenivasa Ramanujan discussed the following points:
1. Expectations of company from the candidates during placement.
2. Importance and necessity of soft skills in students.
3. Important guidelines for technical round in interview process.
4. How to impress interview panel members.
5. Current Software engineering practices in IT industry.
6. TCS Accreditation for placement.
